Invasive Line: Pokes and Prods

The Pokes and Prods CD Rom consists of multimedia software to promote procedural education and safety based on NASA research. This program has become the safety standard at many large health care institutions including Henry Ford Health System and Christiana Health Care for procedural pre-simulation education, and can be an essential part of credentialing residents and new faculty in central venous access.

The program describes incorporates current, evidence based literature to describe optimal site selection, and the indications for invasive line insertion. Patient safety is highlighted in the guide and appropriate preparations are described prior to insertion of the line. Step by step instructions are provided with or without ultrasound guidance to optimize safe catheter insertion. Catheter management and removal are also covered to reduce the risk of complications from invasive lines.
